What we test
Tools whose results can be compared in numbers (compression, conversion, background removal, OCR, translation, grammar, upscaling, speed tests and similar) are used hands-on and the results are written down. Tools that cannot be compared this way, such as government portals, collaboration apps or course platforms, are described only from their official pages.
Test setup
We test in Chrome on a desktop PC without logging in, and decline non-essential cookies. We do not sign up, pay or bypass CAPTCHAs; when a tool needs an account, we record how far we got.
Standard test files
The synthetic files we test with are public so anyone can repeat a test under the same conditions. We never use personal or real work files. Use the SHA-256 values below to confirm you have the same file.

How we measure
Processing time runs from adding the file until the result appears on screen, including upload, and is a single run unless stated. Internet speed tests use the median of 5 runs. Result sizes come from the downloaded file or the size the tool displays, and the page says which. Uploads are checked with the browser's request log; this can miss some transfers (for example from background workers), so we separate "no upload seen" from "confirmed on-device".
What the labels mean
Every data-sheet row shows its source. Tested = we did it in this test; Official = stated on the tool's official pages; Not tested = not tried or could not be confirmed. If we did not download the result, download quality and watermarks stay "not tested" and the page is marked as a partial check.
Change log
When a retest changes a free limit, sign-up step or result, we record the change with its date. Earlier results are not erased; we note what changed.
What we do not do
We do not invent user counts or results. We do not list downloaders, watermark removers, deepfake tools, or sites whose operator we cannot identify.
